Nissan, Porsche face action over false emissions information

According to Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), these auto companies allegedly shared misleading information regarding the gas emission mechanism of their diesel vehicles which were imported for sale in South Korea. Thereafter, KFTC imposed a fine of 173 million won ($146,700) on Nissan Korea.

Auto giants Nissan Motor, Porsche AG, and their two Korean units have been ordered by South Korea's antitrust regulator to take corrective measures with regard to the falsified information the auto companies provided on the gas emissions of their diesel cars.

According to Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), these auto companies allegedly shared misleading information regarding the gas emission mechanism of their diesel vehicles which were imported for sale in South Korea.

The gas emission reduction system had illegal software installations which did not fully function during normal driving conditions. Thereafter, KFTC imposed a fine of 173 million won ($146,700) on Nissan Korea.

The practice meant that the cars did not meet permissible emission levels, but the automakers falsified such facts in signs attached to their cars, according to the commission.

In September, the regulator fined Audi-Volkswagen Korea and Stellantis Korea a combined 1.06 billion won for similar allegations over gas emissions.
