Navi Mumbai International Airport Set to Begin Operations by Year-End, Announces Scindia

Scindia highlighted the significance of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The MTHL, built at a cost of Rs 21,200 crore, is the longest sea bridge in India and the 12th longest in the world.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that the Navi Mumbai International Airport is scheduled to become operational in November or December this year. During the inauguration of the AAR-Indamer MRO facility at the MIHAN SEZ in Nagpur, he shared plans for the development of at least two airports in 10 Indian cities over the next 10 to 15 years.

Scindia highlighted the significance of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The MTHL, built at a cost of Rs 21,200 crore, is the longest sea bridge in India and the 12th longest in the world. It spans 16.50 kilometers over the sea and 5.50 kilometers on land, with a one-way toll of Rs 250 for passenger cars.

The Civil Aviation Minister emphasized the importance of the Navi Mumbai International Airport for the development of Navi Mumbai, with plans for its inaugural flight around the same period. Scindia also announced upcoming inspections at airports in Kolhapur, Pune, and Navi Mumbai.

Additionally, Scindia flagged off tri-weekly flights between Ahmedabad and Ayodhya, unveiling plans for five more airports in Uttar Pradesh—Aligarh, Azamgarh, Shravasti, Chitrakoot, and Moradabad. He noted the expansion of the aviation network in Uttar Pradesh, with the number of airports increasing from six in 2014 to ten today, including the newly inaugurated Ayodhya airport. The minister highlighted a 137% increase in air traffic movements from 700 per week in 2014 to the current 1,654.
