In an exclusive interview with PTI, Mother Dairy Managing Director, Manish Bandlish, shared the details of this exciting venture.

Mother Dairy, a prominent player in the dairy industry, declared on Tuesday the introduction of a buffalo milk variant in the Delhi-NCR market. The company has ambitious plans for this new segment, aiming to transform it into a Rs 500 crore brand by March next year. Currently, Mother Dairy supplies 35-36 lakh litres of milk daily in Delhi-NCR and 45-47 lakh litres across India.

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Mother Dairy Managing Director, Manish Bandlish, shared the details of this exciting venture. The buffalo milk, priced at Rs 70 per litre, will be initially available in pouches and milk booths in Delhi-NCR, with a daily supply ranging from 50,000 to 75,000 litres. Bandlish stated, "By March 2025, we aim to reach 2 lakh litres per day, intending to establish the buffalo variant as a Rs 500 crore brand within a year."

Highlighting the growth potential of this segment, Bandlish emphasized the increasing demand for high-fat milk. He revealed plans to extend the buffalo milk offering to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra in the coming months.

Mother Dairy's buffalo milk boasts a 6.5% fat content and 9% Solid Not Fat (SNF), providing a creamier texture and a rich taste profile. The addition of A2 protein enhances the nutritional value of the product. Bandlish explained, "With evolving consumer preferences for rich and creamy milk, versatile in its usage, Mother Dairy is introducing another species-specific buffalo milk after the success of cow milk."

Reflecting on the success of their cow milk launched several years ago, which now contributes 35-40% to the total volumes, Bandlish expressed confidence that the buffalo milk variant will quickly become a household favorite. He believes it will contribute significantly to the brand's reputation for providing species-specific milk variants.

Mother Dairy, with a turnover of around Rs 14,500 crore in the last financial year, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Established in 1974, the company manufactures and sells a wide range of milk and milk products, including cultured products, ice creams, paneer, and ghee, under the 'Mother Dairy' brand. Additionally, it has a diversified portfolio with products like edible oils under the 'Dhara' brand and various food items under the 'Safal' brand. With nine company-owned milk processing plants, Mother Dairy continues to innovate and meet the evolving needs of consumers in the dairy and food industry.
