IndiGo Airlines has captured the title of world's second fastest-growing airline in seat capacity with a 10.1 percent year-on-year growth, touching more than 134.9 million seats in 2024.
The latest figures from the Official Airline Guide (OAG) indicate that IndiGo is just second to Qatar Airways, which experienced a slightly more impressive seat capacity growth of 10.4 percent from last year.
IndiGo is also the global leader in flight growth frequency, posting a 9.7 percent year-over-year growth in 2024. The airline had flown 749,156 flights in the year, becoming the fastest-growing airline in this category as well.
OAG again emphasizes that IndiGo possesses among the biggest fleets of aircraft being ordered in the world, at more than 900 aircraft being planned. IndiGo was also the largest airline to receive brand new Airbus jets in 2024, accepting 58 airplanes. The company, though, is facing the challenge of maintaining a supply of parts for MRO, causing some 80 aircraft to go dark.
As 88 percent of IndiGo's total capacity services domestic routes, expansion into foreign markets is nevertheless a vital element in its future plans. Throughout 2024, the company has been intensifying efforts in strengthening its coverage of regional Middle East destinations as well as Thailand.
In the future, IndiGo is even investigating starting low-cost long-haul services and weighing options on advancing the initiatives by sending in wet-lease planes as soon as 2025.
Financially, IndiGo posted a net profit of ₹2,449 crore for the quarter ended October-December in the financial year ending March 31, 2025. This is down 18 percent from the same quarter in the last year. But revenue from operations increased 14 percent to ₹22,111 crore during the quarter.
The total revenue of the airline in the quarter increased to ₹22,992.8 crore, up 14.6 percent year-on-year. Total expenses for the quarter increased by 19.9 percent to ₹20,465.7 crore.
IndiGo's Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) rose by 0.7 percent year-on-year to ₹5,178.6 crore.
The airline also reported a load factor of 86.9 percent for the quarter, up from the 85.8 percent seen in the same quarter last year.
