Referring to journalists in election-weathered Bihar, Goyal reminded that in February Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump had directed their respective ministers to work on the pact and see if they can finalise the first tranche by this November.

"In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump together instructed us that the ministers of both sides should make a good agreement by November,” Goyal said.

“The first part of that agreement, the first tranche, should be finalised by November 2025, and since March, discussions have been going on on this subject very seriously in a very good environment, progress is being made, and with the progress, both sides are satisfied," Goyal added.

Goyal's statement came a day after a cordial exchange of messages between PM Modi and President Trump on social media.

Trump, writing on his platform Truth Social, stated he was pleased with the negotiations under way and was confident of a positive result.

“I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations," Trump added.

He also stated that he was looking forward to talking with his "very good friend" Prime Minister Modi within the coming weeks.

Responding on X, PM Modi called the US a close friend and a natural partner, noting that the talks would unlock the “limitless potential” of the India-US partnership and assuring that both teams were working to conclude discussions quickly.
