India's coal production in October stood at 84.45 million tonnes, that is, 7.48 per cent more than a year ago's 78.57 million tonnes at an estimated growth rate, stated the government on Friday. Coal production from captive and other entities also jumped sharply. In October 2024, it rose to 16.59 MT as against 11.70 MT in the same period last year. It had a growth rate of 41.75 per cent, the data of the Ministry of Coal revealed.
The cumulative coal production for the fiscal year up to October reached 537.45 MT, higher than 506.56 MT in the same period of FY 2023-24, which was up 6.10 percent, data showed.
The sharp upswing in overall coal production is at a time when the government continues to be committed to providing an assured supply of coal to meet India's energy requirements, with sustained efforts at increasing production, streamlining logistics, and supporting the nation's energy goals.
Coal dispatches in October surged to an impressive 82.89 MT, growing by 4.60 per cent over the 79.25 MT recorded in October 2023. Coal dispatch from captive and other entities also grew to 16.18 MT in October compared to 11.83 MT last year, which represented a growth of 36.83 per cent.
The cumulative coal dispatch for the April-October period of this fiscal increased to 571.39 MT in FY 2024-25 compared with 541.51 MT in the corresponding period in FY 2023-24. In this regard, there is a growth of 5.52 per cent as per the ministry. Coal production rose by 2.6 per cent year-on-year in September. According to the latest Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) data, its cumulative index grew by 5.9 percent during April-September 2024-25 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
