The NSE saw heavy buying in the Auto, IT, Consumption, Financial Service, FMCG and Realty sectors.
Market experts said increased momentum was seen in the domestic market driven by optimism about the upcoming earnings season starting next week. The rally was broad-based with most sectoral indices posting gains, they said.

"The auto sector led the pack, showing the strongest momentum owing to robust December sales that defy the usual subdued demand. Banking and IT stocks also did quite well, considering the economy had bottomed out in Q2," said an expert.
