India achieved the 11th rank in the world in pharmaceutical exports by value in 2023, accounting for 3% of the overall pharmaceutical trade in the world, Union Minister Anupriya Patel told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Giving this information in a written reply, the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers quoted a secondary market research report by Bain and Company published earlier this year.
Responding to issues regarding the quality of Indian pharmaceutical products in some foreign markets, Patel promised that the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have undertaken several steps to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of drugs.
In answer to another question, she emphasized the function of National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Policy (NPPP) mobile application, Pharma Sahi Daam (PSD), through which consumers can have access to data like brand name, composition of the drug, ceiling price, and maximum retail price.
Patel also stressed that the whole process of price-fixation as per current policies remains open to the public to make it transparent and accountable. She assured that there are no proposals being looked at for now.
