Government Plans Auction of 20 Mining Blocks for Critical Minerals in the Next 2 Weeks

The government has recently identified a list of critical minerals, such as lithium, cobalt, and titanium, essential for advanced technology sectors like electronics, telecom, transport, and defense.

Mines Secretary V.L. Kantha Rao announced on Tuesday that the Ministry of Mines is set to auction 20 blocks of critical minerals, including lithium and graphite, within the next two weeks. Speaking at the inauguration of the mining pavilion "Connecting Beyond Mining" at the India International Trade Fair 2023 (IITF), Rao emphasized the exploration of indigenous technology for mining and processing critical minerals.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi, highlighted the role of minerals in daily life and their crucial contribution to the transition to a low-carbon emission economy and renewable energy technologies. He emphasized the importance of minerals in achieving the 'Net Zero' commitment declared by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

The Ministry of Mines is participating in the India International Trade Fair to showcase the success and opportunities in the mining sector. The mining pavilion at IITF aims to create awareness about ongoing reforms in the mining and mineral sector, emphasizing the essential role minerals play in various aspects of daily life, from food production to electricity generation and technological advancements.

The pavilion includes a dedicated Kids Zone and VR Zone to engage children with information about mines and mining through games and competitions. A Selfie Zone has also been arranged for the general public. The India International Trade Fair runs from November 14 to 27, with the first five days reserved for business activities and open to the general public from November 19 to 27. The fair operates from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.
