Foxconn Chairman Young Liu Honored with Padma Bhushan Recognition

Liu is notably the only foreign recipient among the 17 Padma Bhushan awardees, as per the official announcement made on Thursday.

Foxconn Group CEO and Chairman Young Liu, a prominent figure in the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing industry, has been honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, on the eve of the country's 75th Republic Day.

Liu is notably the only foreign recipient among the 17 Padma Bhushan awardees, as per the official announcement made on Thursday. Under his leadership, Foxconn initiated iPhone manufacturing in India in 2019, contributing to the growth of the country's technology and manufacturing sector.

Foxconn, which currently employs over 40,000 people in India, has plans to double its workforce this year. The group has a substantial turnover of over USD 10 billion in India, and its investments in the country exceed USD 8 billion. Liu has played a pivotal role in Foxconn's involvement in the India Semiconductor Mission, supporting the establishment of a semiconductor ecosystem within the country.

In collaboration with the HCL Group, Foxconn is in the process of establishing an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test joint venture, with an initial investment of USD 37.2 million. Liu's leadership has been instrumental in the success and expansion of Foxconn's operations in India.

With a career marked by significant contributions to the electronics industry, Liu has founded three companies, including a motherboard company, Young Micro Systems, in 1988, a semiconductor design company, ITE Tech, in 1995, and an ADSL IC design company, ITeX, in 1997.

Liu holds an MS degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California and a BS degree in Electrophysics from Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University. His recognition with the Padma Bhushan reflects his outstanding contributions to the technology and manufacturing landscape, both in India and globally.
