Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) issued an announcement on Friday, April 11, informing the public that all flights departing from Terminal 2 will now operate from Terminal 1 due to essential maintenance work.
As part of a major upgrade and maintenance project at Terminal 2, airlines have begun to issue advisories to passengers regarding the change in flight operations.
he terminal will close for repair later in the week, and major runway renovations will be done over this time.
"From 15th April 2025 at 0001 hours, all flights that were initially scheduled from Terminal 2 will be relocated to Terminal 1 until further notice. This follows scheduled maintenance work at Terminal 2, which will be closed during the period of the upgrade. IndiGo Airlines also issued a statement late Thursday night, announcing that all flights earlier scheduled to operate from Terminal 2 will now be relocated to Terminal 1 from April 15, 2025, until further notice. The airline instructed passengers to check their terminal and flight status through their official website prior to arriving at the airport, as some schedule changes may take place.
"In view of the scheduled maintenance work, all the flights operated from Delhi's Terminal 2 will now take off from Terminal 1 from April 15, 2025. We request you to please verify the terminal and flight status on our website, as the flight schedule may be altered. Our staff is continuously working hard to execute a seamless transition and a convenient travel experience for all passengers. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding," IndiGo tweeted on X.
Air India also made a statement on the runway improvement work in progress at Delhi Airport, which is anticipated to continue until July 2025. The airline alerted travelers that though every attempt will be made to limit disruption, flight timetables may be impacted.
"Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, is going through runway upgrade, and the project, according to DIAL, will be ongoing until July 2025. Although we will try our best to reduce any inconvenience, there will be occasions when flight schedules will be affected. We request passengers to check their flight status at: http://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html prior to airport visit," Air India stated on X.
The maintenance activity is being undertaken by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) as part of a bid to improve the infrastructure and overall passenger experience at one of India's busiest airports. Furthermore, runway upgrades are also in progress, which may result in flight delays or rescheduling.
Looking ahead, Delhi’s IGI Airport is aiming to increase its capacity to handle more than 24 million passengers annually in the next 1–2 years, up from its current capacity of 22 million, including 5.5 million connecting passengers.
This was revealed by DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar. The ongoing upgrades, including the runway improvements, are part of a larger initiative to enhance the airport’s infrastructure and prepare it for greater international connectivity.
