Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Slashed by Rs 41, Offering Relief to Businesses

In a major relief to industries and businesses dependent on cooking fuel, oil marketing companies reduced the price of commercial LPG gas cylinders (19 kg) by Rs 41 on Tuesday.

From April 1, the selling price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in New Delhi will be Rs 1,762.

In other metros, the rates are: Mumbai at Rs 1,714.5, Kolkata at Rs 1,872, and Chennai at Rs 1,924.50.

The latest price revision came after a revision on March 1, when commercial LPG prices were raised by Rs 6 following a Rs 7 cut in February.

Experts are of the opinion that the price revision would positively affect hotels, restaurants, and other businesses that use LPG cylinders as part of their everyday business operations.

These are routine monthly revisions on the basis of changes in global crude prices and other market trends.

On the related front, the number of refills of LPG cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for poor households has increased noticeably over the last five years. The per-capita consumption rate for PMUY beneficiaries has jumped to almost four-and-a-half cylinders a year, according to data tabled in Parliament.

As of March 1, 2025, 10.33 crore PMUY connections exist in India. The number of refills under the scheme has doubled in the past five years. 41.95 crore PMUY refills were distributed in the first 11 months of FY25, compared to 39.38 crore refills in the entire year of 2023-24, proving the success of the scheme, as indicated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Parliament.

Compared to this, the refills in 2019-20 were 22.80 crore, which is nearly 100% more refills in the last five years.
