Chinese brands commanded 75% of India’s smartphone market in 2020: Report 

The excellent growth registered by Chinese brands  comes even as the armies of India and China continue to face military standoff along Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. According to the report, Chinese smartphone brands saw a growth of 4% and the share is at 75% which is higher than 71% in 2019.

According to the report, Chinese smartphone brands saw a growth of 4% and the share is at 75% which is higher than 71% in 2019.

Xiaomi Corp became India's top smartphone seller in 2020 with a market share of 26% which is still a bit lower than 27% in 2019. South Korean brand Samsung Electronics claimed 2nd position with 21% share, followed by Vivo, Realme, and Oppo, of whom all are Chinese brands, according to Counterpoint.

During clashes between troops of India and China on June 15 in Galwan, 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of Chinese soldiers were killed. Both the armies are on the alert mode in high altitude areas along the borders.

After the incident, Chinese companies had faced a huge backlash in India which resulted in Vivo's drop out of the title sponsorship of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. The company had secured sponsorship rights from 2018 to 2022.

As per Counterpoint, overall smartphone shipments in India topped 150 million in the year 2020 which is less by 4% than the previous year. The demands for smartphones saw a rise during the festive season in the fourth quarter.
