Tata Harrier EV Debuts at ₹21.49 Lakh with AWD, Lifetime Battery Warranty, and 627 km Range

The new vehicle is poised to take on traditional diesel automatics in the mid-size SUV space, which usually launch between ₹22.8 lakh and ₹23.3 lakh on-road, as Tata seeks to expand its EV customer base.

Tata Motors introduced its highly awaited Harrier EV on Tuesday, launching it at ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the best-priced electric all-wheel-drive (AWD) SUVs on sale in India today.

The new vehicle is poised to take on traditional diesel automatics in the mid-size SUV space, which usually launch between ₹22.8 lakh and ₹23.3 lakh on-road, as Tata seeks to expand its EV customer base.

The Harrier EV is Tata's foray into the dual-motor EV space and is based on the next-generation Acti.ev Gen 2 platform of the carmaker. It is a strategic move into the company's electric mobility journey beyond early EV adopters to a more mass-market SUV user base.

"We are entering an era where it's no longer price parity with ICE vehicles," declared Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. "The Harrier EV offers much better capability and value—on-road, off-road, and in ownership."

Tata's new model also debuts the QWD (Quad Wheel Drive) system for the first time, providing more than 500 Nm of torque along with specialized off-road assist technologies. The EV is said to provide a driving range of over 600 km and features such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), a panoramic sunroof, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging, and an upscale digital ecosystem—features normally found in luxury SUVs that cost above ₹50 lakh.

The Harrier EV will be offered in various "personas," starting with the Adventure trim and culminating with the Empowered QWD variant. Tata Motors has also teased "Quad Days"—a special performance and feature celebration event planned on June 13–14, prior to official bookings opening on July 2.

This introduction is a part of the push by Tata Motors to regain lost ground in the EV segment, whose market share has dropped from a high of 70% a year ago to slightly more than 50%, as new models like Mahindra's BE.6 and XUV.e9 and the JSW MG Motor Windsor EV have given it strong competition. Tata hopes that the Harrier EV with its SUV-biased appeal and improved abilities will bring ICE SUV buyers into the fold of electrification.

This is not simply about electrification—it's about delivering a fundamentally improved SUV experience," Chandra furthered.
