UP Man Fatally Assaults Son Over Dispute About Watching Cricket World Cup Final

According to Jitendra Singh, the incharge of Chakeri police station, Ganesh Nishad was so angered by his son, Deepak, who allegedly switched off the TV while he was watching the match, that he pinned him down in their house's living room and strangled him using a phone cable.

In a shocking incident in Kanpur, a 50-year-old man reportedly strangled his 24-year-old son to death for preventing him from watching the World Cup final match between India and Australia on November 19.

According to Jitendra Singh, the incharge of Chakeri police station, Ganesh Nishad was so angered by his son, Deepak, who allegedly switched off the TV while he was watching the match, that he pinned him down in their house's living room and strangled him using a phone cable.

Deepak, a carpenter, lived with his parents in Sanjeev Nagar locality of Ahirwa in Kanpur’s Chakeri. The police mentioned that Deepak was a habitual drinker, leading to issues in his personal life, including his wife leaving him. Ganesh, the father, was also reported to be a drug addict, resulting in frequent disputes between father and son.

The tragic incident occurred when Deepak, under the influence of alcohol, switched off the TV while Ganesh was watching the match and demanded that his father cook food for him. The argument escalated into a fistfight, and in the heat of the moment, Ganesh allegedly strangled Deepak to death with a phone cable. The accused was arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday.
