Sunday morning brought a devastating onslaught to Ukraine as Russia initiated its third attack within a span of four days, Ukrainian authorities disclosed.
Reports from the Ukrainian Air Force revealed that Russia unleashed a barrage of 29 cruise missiles launched from 14 Tu-95MC fighters along with 28 Shahed drones targeting various regions of Ukraine. Despite the ferocity of the assault, Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept and neutralize 18 missiles and 25 drones across southern, northern, central, and western Ukraine, as per Xinhua news agency.
Thankfully, preliminary assessments indicate no casualties resulting from the attack on the Ukrainian capital. However, a critical infrastructure facility in the western Lviv region fell victim to the assault, igniting a fire as confirmed by Lviv region's governor Maksym Kozytskyi via Telegram, though specific details remain undisclosed.
Echoes of the onslaught reverberated across the western Khmelnytsky and Volyn regions, where locals reported hearing explosions amidst air alerts, as reported by local media sources.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Poland's foreign ministry voiced concern over breaches in its airspace overnight, signaling intent to demand explanations from Moscow regarding the violation.
"Polish airspace was compromised by one of the cruise missiles launched during the night by the air forces of the Russian Federation," reported France 24, citing statements from the Polish army.
