While speaking at a private fundraiser in 2024, Donald Trump allegedly informed those present that he had previously threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin he would "bomb the shit out of Moscow" in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, CNN reported.
CNN provided audio of various of Trump's campaign fundraising events where he made this brazen assertion.
Under Putin I said, 'If you come into Ukraine, I'm going to bomb the shit out of Moscow. I'm telling you I have no choice,'" Trump is recorded saying in one of the clips. He continued and said that Putin seemed not to believe the threat, though Trump thought that "10 percent" of Putin believed him.
The timing of the reported conversation between Trump and Putin was not detailed.
On the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly has claimed that he would be able to end the ongoing Ukraine war within one day.
In parallel, since February, U.S. diplomats have had independent diplomacy with Russia and Ukraine to attempt a conclusion of the conflict. Even so, a ceasefire remains elusive as each side refuses to budge on their stance.
