A tragic incident in Indiana has left a 29-year-old man of Indian origin dead, apparently due to a case of road rage, and his newlywed wife—a citizen of Mexican origin—has been left in shock and despair. Gavin Dasaur, who hails from Agra, India, was married to Viviana ZaMora only for a few weeks when tragedy happened on June 29. Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the southeast side intersection just before 8 pm last Tuesday after calls went out about gunfire.
Witness accounts explained an altercation between Dasaur, who was driving a black Honda, and another driver in a Chevy pickup is what originally instigated the incident. Eyewitnesses at the scene described how angry Dasaur walked up to the pickup's driver before things escalated further. Cell phone video footage show Dasaur exiting his vehicle, flashing a handgun, and becoming very embattled in an argument with the driver of the pickup. Within only seven seconds, shots were fired by the driver of the pickup, and Dasaur collapsed to the ground.
The attempts by the first responders were in vain as Dasaur died at the scene. A possible shooter had been taken into custody but later let go as investigations headed by IMPD in conjunction with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, continue. Viviana ZaMora, the bereaved wife of Dasaur, narrated her disbelief of the event, screaming condemnation against the senseless violence that took her husband—a kind-hearted, industrious man who always put serving others above everything.
The community, and authorities, can do nothing but wait for further details to come out of investigations, but the incident has brought sharply into focus how escalated tension on the road can have devastating consequences.
