In an address to the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized India's stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stressing that a resolution cannot be achieved through military means. Jaishankar expressed India's commitment to ending the conflict and avoiding further devastation, noting that there are no winners in such situations.
Acknowledging that this position wasn't universally popular initially, Jaishankar reiterated India's belief in seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts. He drew parallels with the Israel-Hamas conflict, condemning acts of terrorism while also highlighting the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and addressing the underlying grievances of the Palestinians.
Jaishankar disclosed India's role as a candid intermediary in communicating with both Russia and Israel on these matters. He underscored the need for dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts, emphasizing India's commitment to fostering pluralism and strengthening ties with nations like Malaysia.
During his visit, Jaishankar engaged in productive discussions with Malaysian CEOs, encouraging them to explore opportunities in India's burgeoning economy. He also met with political leaders, including SA Vigneswaran of the Malaysian Indian Congress, expressing gratitude for their support in enhancing India-Malaysia relations.
Concluding his three-nation tour, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of collaboration and cooperation in navigating geopolitical challenges and fostering economic growth between India and Malaysia.
