Russia Claims Capture of Strategic Town in Donetsk Region

"As a result of decisive actions by the Vostok (east) troop group, the settlement of Ugledar was liberated," the ministry said in a statement.

Russia's armed forces have seized control over the town of Ugledar, or Vuhledar, in Ukraine's Donetsk region, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Thursday.
"As a result of decisive actions by the Vostok (east) troop group, the settlement of Ugledar was liberated," the ministry said in a statement.

The town is a strategic location for Russian and Ukrainian forces, which placed it at the intersection of the eastern and southern fronts, at an elevated position. This makes it important for supply lines on either side, according to a report by Xinhua news agency.
Russian forces last month announced taking control of eight settlements in the Donetsk region.
