Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has been recognized as one of the 50 most influential figures in Chicago, according to the esteemed Chicago magazine.
Krishnamoorthi, holding the 24th position on the list, stands out as the highest-ranking individual of South Asian heritage. Topping the list are Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Describing Krishnamoorthi as the "most powerful" South Asian presence in the Greater Chicago Area, Chicago Magazine highlights his ambition to pursue a US Senate seat in 2026.
At 50 years old, Krishnamoorthi represents the northwest suburbs and has made significant contributions as the former chairman of a House Oversight subcommittee. His investigations have spanned a wide range of issues, from probing the Washington Commanders to addressing the shortage of baby formula. Notably, Krishnamoorthi's campaign funds amount to USD 14.4 million, a sum that surpasses those of other congressional representatives from Illinois by threefold and ranks as the third-highest total in Congress overall.
Recognized as a prominent figure on the national stage, Krishnamoorthi's political influence extends beyond Chicago. In 2022 alone, he generously donated USD 460,000 to Democratic candidates and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. It is speculated that Krishnamoorthi is strategically accumulating campaign funds in anticipation of a potential Senate run in 2026, should Senator Dick Durbin decide to retire.
