Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his intention to seek re-election in 2024, marking his pursuit of a third consecutive term and overall sixth term in office, according to media reports.

The announcement came during a ceremony held at the Kremlin, where Putin conferred Hero of Russia medals upon servicemen involved in the recent military operation against Ukraine, as reported by RT.

Putin revealed his decision in response to a query posed by Artyom Zhoga, a Hero of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Notably, amendments to the Russian Constitution in 2020 limit the presidency to two terms. However, these changes aren't retroactive, allowing Putin, who initially assumed the presidency in 2000, served until 2008, then resumed office in 2012 after a stint as Prime Minister, to contest the upcoming election.
