China is preparing to conduct a test launch of a nuclear-capable missile into the Pacific Ocean, according to Papua New Guinea's foreign minister and a New Zealand government source, who said Beijing had notified their governments in advance.
Papua New Guinea Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko confirmed that Chinese officials had informed him directly about the planned missile test.
"Yes, China has briefed me. I was personally called by the Chinese ambassador," Papua New Guinea Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko told AFP when asked if he had been warned.
A New Zealand government source also told AFP that Wellington had received advance notification from China regarding an upcoming test of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
