Opposition Leader Lee Jae-myung in South Korea Stabbed

Reports from Yonhap News Agency confirm that Lee, after the attack, was transported to Pusan National University Hospital. Despite being conscious during the transfer, he was reportedly experiencing continued bleeding.

The Chairman of South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, encountered a shocking attack while visiting Busan, the southeastern port city. During a Q&A session with reporters at the construction site of a new airport on Busan's Gadeok Island, an unidentified man approached Lee and stabbed him on the left side of his neck at around 10:27 a.m. local time.

Eyewitnesses described the assailant as someone who initially pretended to be a supporter of the Opposition leader, asking for an autograph before carrying out the attack using an unknown weapon measuring approximately 20-30 cm in length. The attacker was swiftly arrested at the scene.

Expressing grave concern over Lee's safety, President Yoon Suk Yeol urged the police and relevant authorities to promptly investigate the incident and ensure Lee's immediate transportation to the hospital for treatment. The President vehemently condemned the act of violence, emphasizing that such actions should never be condoned under any circumstances.
