Moscow and Washington both want to advance toward a solution in the current crisis in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday. Peskov underlined that the two nations have shown a "desire and readiness" to seek a peaceful resolution, as there is an understanding between them on this.
He said a variety of technical problems will be resolved through ongoing talks between US and Russian delegations, now ongoing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. "Generally, many different things regarding the settlement still have to be agreed upon," Peskov further stated.
Also, he noted that the negotiations would encompass talks on reviving the Black Sea Initiative aimed at ensuring Black Sea maritime security.
Peskov also repeated that Russian troops are strictly following President Vladimir Putin's instructions to stop attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities.
The fresh cycle of US-Russian negotiations started on Monday in Saudi Arabia, where the aim was to come to an agreement regarding a Ukraine deal and a ceasefire in the Black Sea prior to achieving a bigger agreement. This is a follow-up to negotiations between the United States and Ukraine on Sunday. The US President, Donald Trump, last week spoke over the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Andrew Peek, Senior Director at the White House National Security Council, and Michael Anton, a senior state department official, head the US delegation, as reported by Al Arabiya News. Russia has Grigory Karasin, Chair of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, and Sergei Beseda, an advisor to the Director of the Federal Security Service, at its delegation.
