Fordyce, a city with a population of around 3,400, is located some 70 miles south of Little Rock, the state capital of Arkansas.

"I've been briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I'm in constant contact with State Police at the scene. I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives," Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote on social media.

According to the US-based "Gun Violence Archive," there have been 234 mass shooting incidents in the United States this year, with at least four casualties in each such incident, at the most conservative computation.
