According to local reports, Maldives authorities have detained two current ministers for allegedly attempting acts of black magic against President Mohamed Muizzu. According to the police, Shamnaz Saleem, a former state minister at the Environment Ministry currently serving, and her ex-husband Adam Rameez, who was also serving as a minister at the President's Office, were detained along with two others. The police would not elaborate on the motives behind their arrest or on the alleged black magic.
"Shamnaz, together with two others, was arrested on Sunday. They have been remanded for seven days. She was suspended from her position on Wednesday in line with the Environment Ministry, "sun.mv portal reported. It added that Rameez was also suspended on Thursday.
Curiously, both Shamnaz and Rameez worked with Muizzu some time earlier when they were members of the Male City Council and Muizzu was the mayor.
Reports stated that Shamnaz was first appointed as a state minister at Muliaage – the president's official residence – before she was shifted to the Environment Ministry when Muizzu became president in November last year.
"Rameez was during his time at the Male City Council known as a close associate of Muizzu, who at the time was the mayor," Sun.mv further said. "He has been somewhat out of focus during the past five months or so."
No official statement on the matter has as yet been expressed by either the Maldivian government or the President's office.
