Earlier in the week, Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak indicated that Ukraine's actions in Russia's Kursk region might be linked to potential peace negotiations between the two nations, emphasizing that Ukraine has no intentions of occupying Russian land. Ukraine initiated its operation in the Kursk region on August 6.

In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Ukraine's incursions on Russian territory would elicit a "suitable response," with the Russian military's main objective being to drive Ukrainian forces out of Russian regions.
