As tensions persist inside the Trump administration regarding how to handle the Jeffrey Epstein files, reports now indicate FBI Director Kash Patel might be contemplating resignation.
Patel has reportedly expressed increasing frustration with the actions of Attorney General Pam Bondi—much like concerns expressed by Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, who is also said to be considering leaving.
On X (formerly Twitter), Mary Margaret Olohan of the Daily Wire posted: "Source close to DOJ says Kash Patel also wants Pam Bondi gone, and that he'd consider leaving if Bongino leaves. Also, that there are more frustrations with other documents Bondi hasn't released."
This comes after a Daily Wire report quoting a source familiar with Bongino, stating that the deputy director is set to resign if Bondi sticks to her job. According to the source, Bongino's ire is due to the way Bondi handled the much-anticipated Epstein files.
"The source familiar with Bongino said that he's essentially issued an ultimatum, saying he won't work under Bondi," the report added.
To date, neither the White House nor Patel's office has publicly commented on it.
This in-house turmoil follows what seemed to be a change of heart from the Justice Department in the Epstein case. Previous assurances of transparency have been met with criticism from high-profile conservative media figures such as Laura Loomer and Elon Musk. Both scorned Bondi and Patel for the absence of tangible revelations, especially on Epstein's network of acquaintances and flight activity.
Bondi, who had previously promised major revelations about Epstein's network, including "a lot of names" and "a lot of flight logs," has faced fresh scrutiny. In an interview with Fox News in February, she told them, "It's sitting on my desk right now to review," when questioned as to when the release of Epstein's client list would be made.
With uncertainty hanging over possible exits and pending files, the controversy seems to have added deeper divisions at the highest echelons of the administration.
