US President Joe Biden has issued a stern warning of additional retaliation against the Houthi group if they persist in their "outrageous behavior." This statement followed a series of airstrikes conducted by the US and the UK in Yemen overnight, which Biden deemed successful. He characterized the Houthis as a "terrorist" group, as reported by the BBC.
The Houthi spokesperson, Mohammed Abdulsalam, stated that over 70 missiles were launched at Yemen during the strike, condemning the action as "treacherous aggression" committed by the US and the UK.
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby clarified that the US is not seeking war with Yemen but emphasized Biden's readiness to take further action to safeguard troops, facilities, and international commerce. The attacks on Friday had the support of US-UK allies, including Canada and Australia, according to reports from the British news broadcaster.
