Indian Man Fatally Stabbed by Fellow Countryman on Public Bus in Texas

In a tragic accident, 30-year-old Indian citizen Akshay Gupta died after being stabbed to death by another Indian man on a public bus in Austin, Texas, officials confirmed.

Emergency personnel, including police and EMS, responded to the scene after a report was made regarding a "Shoot/Stab" with an individual under attack on a city bus.

When the officers arrived, they discovered Gupta severely injured. Even after first responders tried to resuscitate him, he was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Deepak Kandel was 31 years old. Kandel had been sitting next to Gupta, investigators stated, when, in a surprise attack, he stabbed him in the neck without provocation.

Witnesses said that once the bus had stopped, Kandel quietly exited the bus together with the other passengers. The police were able to find him and arrest him a short while later.

When interrogated, Kandel admitted stabbing Gupta, saying he had attacked "Gupta because he looked like his uncle."

Kandel is currently charged with first-degree murder and is being detained at the Travis County Jail.
