There was violence by Khalistani activists outside Brampton's Hindu Sabha Temple and, reportedly, disturbances also erupted near a consular camp co-organized with the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton near Toronto.
The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has condemned the anti-India factions responsible for creating disruptions at the consular camp. The High Commission of India said in a statement, "It is deeply disappointing to see such disruptions being allowed for routine consular work being organized by our Consulates with the fullest cooperation of local co-organisers.".
They also articulated safety fears over the applicants' own self-safety as well, who were Indians and sought consular service. It released that with the nuisance effort of the anti-India elements, the consulate managed to successfully issue over 1,000 life certificates to Indian and Canada-based applicants.
The High Commission also briefed on identical sabotage attempts in the Consular camps conducted in Vancouver and Surrey on November 2 and 3, respectively.
A 60-meter buffer zone was created around one of the city's main gurdwaras in Vancouver after the British Columbia Supreme Court issued an order. This was due to the expected disruptions by Sikh extremist groups during a consular camp. According to local media, authorities of the Ross Street gurdwara had gone ahead and filed a court injunction well before the November 2 consular events that took place amidst soaring India-Canada tensions-a situation New Delhi attributes to a "vindictive campaign" by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government following the 2023 killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
According to court documents from the Khalsa Diwan Society, which operates the gurdwara, "intense protests" were expected at the consular camps. Annually, the camps will help seniors of Indian origin avail administrative services easily available at their doorstep without any visit to the consulate, assisted with pension documentation.
Meanwhile, a protest by Khalistani extremists outside Brampton's Hindu Sabha Temple turned violent on Sunday, with some temple attendees reportedly attacked. Such an incident drew sharp condemnation from various political figures, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was one of them who outrightly condemned the assault.
"No arrests were made in connection with the violence at Brampton's Hindu Sabha Temple," though Peel Police ensured a strong presence at the site, deploying numerous officers on Sunday afternoon.
The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely. Thank you to the Peel Regional Police for quickly responding to protect the community and investigate this incident."
