India and France Strengthen Strategic Ties as NSA Doval Meets President Macron in Paris

It sets the course for the bilateral relationship up to 2047, when India will be celebrating the centenary of its independence, centenary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, and 50 years of the strategic partnership.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday called on French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and reaffirmed that India stood committed to implementing the Indo-Pacific Horizon 2047 roadmap between the two long-standing strategic partners in the region.

"NSA Ajit Doval calls on French President Emmanuel Macron. Gave PM Narendra Modi's greetings. Emphasised once again commitment to implementing the India-France Horizon 2047 roadmap. The President emphasised that these efforts by India and France to strengthen peace and address global issues constitute a very significant value; thanked PM Modi for these initiatives, said Embassy of India in France after the meeting.

Earlier in the day, NSA Doval and the Diplomatic Advisor to French President Emmanuel Bonne led the Strategic Dialogue in Paris that anchors the India-France strategic partnership of "great trust and comfort, and high ambitions and responsibilities" in the Indo-Pacific and beyond, and from cyber to space.

The NSA held a comprehensive discussion with French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Monday. It was stated, on behalf of the Indian Embassy, that their dialogue mainly covered steps toward further bilateral cooperation in defense and developments on space cooperation, in addition to new trends in the geopolitical scenario around the world.

"On the occasion of his visit to France, discussions with Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India. To discuss our bilateral defense cooperation: Rafale Marine, Scorpene submarines, space. As well as the international situation, especially in Ukraine," Lecornu said commenting on the meeting.

It was in June when the French President met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy's Apulia soon after PM Modi assumed office for his third consecutive term.

The two leaders reviewed India-France bilateral relations, with the focus being the 'Horizon 2047' Roadmap and the Indo-Pacific Roadmap which involved discussions on cooperation in defense, nuclear, space, education, climate action, digital public infrastructure, connectivity, and cultural initiatives such as the National Museum partnership, along with enhancing people-to-people ties.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen strategic defense cooperation with a greater focus on 'Make in India'.

They agreed to deepen cooperation in AI, critical and emerging technologies, energy, and sports while working closely in the context of the AI Summit and the United Nations Oceans Conference that will be held in France in 2025.
Both PM Modi and President Macron have highlighted the need for a strong and trusted strategic partnership between India and France, which would be important for a stable and prosperous global order.
