ICJ Set to Issue Interim Ruling on Genocide Case Against Israel This Friday

The case brought by South Africa centers on the Israel-Hamas war, with South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is set to announce its verdict on South Africa's request for an interim ruling in its genocide case against Israel on Friday. South African officials have reportedly arrived in The Hague, Netherlands, where the ICJ is headquartered.

The case brought by South Africa centers on the Israel-Hamas war, with South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza. During the hearing, Israel categorically rejected the genocide charge, asserting that the accusations are "grossly distorted." Israel defended its actions by stating its right to self-defense, highlighting the incursion by Hamas into its territory on October 7, where it claims Hamas unleashed severe brutality and caused the death of 1200 people.

Israel further argued that 240 individuals were kidnapped and held as hostages by Hamas in Gaza. The ICJ's impending verdict will provide insights into the interim measures related to South Africa's case against Israel.
