The US President Joe Biden hit the podium at the Democratic National Convention for his farewell speech, noting he had given the best to America.
An apparent emotional President, already 81 years of age, said, "I love you," amid an enthusiastic welcome of chants, "Thank you, Joe."
"America," he said, apparently upset at the end of a quite long and emotional speech, "I gave my best to you.".
He also defended his legacy and hailed Vice President and Democratic Presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, as reported by BBC, saying, "The Democrats were in a battle for the very soul of America ahead of the November contest against Donald Trump".
Though he emphasized the achievements of his government, the speech was an entire campaign for Harris.
At the close of his speech, Biden was joined by his wife, children, Harris and running mate Tim Walz.
Harris, who appeared at the convention in Chicago, said, "Joe, thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation and for all you continue to do.
"So, we must fight for the ideas we hold dear, and let's always remember when we fight, we win," she said.
On platform X, Biden posted, "The vote each of us casts this year will determine whether democracy and freedom will prevail. It's that simple – and that serious. The power is in your hands. History is in your hands. America's future is in your hands."
America is a nation of possibilities.
Earlier, Hillary Clinton, the one to have lost to Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential polls, had said they were close to seeing Harris "on the other side of that glass ceiling" as the first female president of the US.
Clinton had been the first of the Democratic leaders to come out and support Harris after Biden dropped out of the race and threw his weight behind the Vice-President.
Harris will take center stage for her acceptance speech on the convention's final day Thursday.
