A fatal knife attack unfolded in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, resulting in one fatality and two injuries, according to local reports.
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday near the Eiffel Tower, where the assailant targeted a couple. The attack claimed the life of one individual, and the assailant subsequently wielded a hammer, assaulting at least two other tourists before being apprehended, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
During a press briefing at the scene, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin disclosed that the suspect is a 26-year-old French man who had received a four-year prison sentence in 2016. The French national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office has taken charge of the investigation.
In response to the incident, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne asserted, "We will not give in to terrorism," emphasizing the country's commitment to resisting acts of terror.
