Earthquake Death Toll Climbs to 127 in China's Gansu and Qinghai Regions

China has elevated its national disaster-relief emergency response to Level II for the earthquake. Over 736 rescuers from central enterprises' projects in nearby areas, along with 2,042 firefighters, have been deployed to the affected region. The Ministry of Emergency Management reported that 74 people have been rescued, 4,298 evacuated, and property worth over 15.3 million yuan (approximately $2.16 million) saved.

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake in China's Gansu province and neighboring Qinghai province has claimed the lives of 127 people, with 113 fatalities in Gansu and 14 in Qinghai. Additionally, over 700 people have been reported injured. The earthquake, which struck at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, has resulted in significant damage, with 155,393 houses affected in Gansu.

As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 133,500 relief items have been dispatched to Gansu and Qinghai to support those affected by the earthquake. Traffic has been restored on all rural highways connecting severely affected areas. The Ministry of Transport confirmed the smooth operation of expressways and trunk roads, facilitating the movement of relief personnel, supplies, and vehicles.

Efforts to restore power supply in the quake-hit areas are underway. The main power grid circuits in Jishishan county have been fully restored, and electricity supply for all power users in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture has been resumed. Power supply to users in Qinghai affected by the earthquake has also been fully restored.
