EAM Jaishankar and Blinken Discuss Red Sea Attacks, Gaza, and Ukraine

During discussions between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the focus was on "shared concerns" regarding the irresponsible Houthi attacks in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The United States has expressed its appreciation for the "increased cooperation" with India in safeguarding the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

During discussions between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the focus was on "shared concerns" regarding the irresponsible Houthi attacks in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. These attacks pose a threat to the free flow of commerce, endangering innocent mariners and violating international law.

According to State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, Secretary Blinken highlighted the significance of the Red Sea as a major commercial corridor for international trade. He welcomed the enhanced collaboration with India in defending freedom of navigation in the region.

The conversation between Jaishankar and Blinken also covered the Israel-Hamas conflict, efforts to prevent escalation, and the augmentation of humanitarian aid delivery to civilians in Gaza. Additionally, Blinken addressed Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

Jaishankar, in a post on X, described the discussion with Blinken as a "good discussion" focusing on maritime security challenges in the Red Sea region. He appreciated Blinken's insights on the ongoing situation in West Asia, including Gaza, and mentioned the exchange of perspectives on developments related to the Ukraine conflict. Jaishankar looks forward to realizing the extensive cooperation agenda for 2024.

In a separate post on X, Miller stated that Blinken had a "productive call" with Jaishankar, discussing the U.S.-India partnership for protecting freedom of navigation in critical waterways.
