China warned India media on Wednesday against interfering in China’s internal affairs by playing the ‘Tibet Card’ adding that the media should refrain from damaging the bilateral relations further.
It is crucial for the two neighbouring countries, who are also emerging economies to enhance mutual trust and relations, properly manage differences and strive to "return China-India relations to the track of healthy and stable development,” the Chinese embassy in India said while reacting to the media reports on the US "Tibetan Policy and Support Act."
The embassy spokesperson called for a fair stance on China’s sovereign and territorial issues by the Indian media.
“We hope some Indian media take an objective and fair stance on issues concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, grasp the highly sensitive nature of Xizang (Tibet) -related issues, look at Xizang's economic and social progress objectively, do more to help China-India bilateral ties move forward instead of advocating playing Tibet card to meddle in China's internal affairs," the spokesperson of the embassy said in the statement.
The embassy said the US Act interferes in China's internal affairs and "violates the fundamental principles of international laws and basic norms governing international ties." "China firmly opposes any country, organisation or individual supporting the anti-China separatist activities of the "Tibetan independence" forces in any form and under any pretext," it said.
This backlash from China came after US President Donald Trump signed the “Tibetan Policy and Support Act” on Monday, which supported the sovereignty of Tibet and looked upon a smooth transition to the next Dalai Lama without China's interference.
