China objects to US diplomat's meeting with Dalai Lama's representative in New Delhi

The US should quit "meddling" in Chinese internal matters under the cover of the Tibetan issue, said the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy, Counsellor Wang Xiaojian.In a series of tweets, Wang Xiaojian slammed the US for holding the conversation, claiming that the Tibetan problem is a matter for China alone. Wang also asked the US to uphold its pledge.

China is irked over US Charge d"Affaires Atul Keshap's meeting with a representative of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in New Delhi on Tuesday. Strongly, objecting to this meeting, Beijing has asked the US to stop interfering in its internal matters.

In a series of tweets, Wang Xiaojian slammed the US for holding the conversation, claiming that the Tibetan problem is a matter for China alone.

According to Wang, The so-called “Tibetan government-in-exile” is a separatist political group with the goal of achieving “Tibetan independence,” which is entirely illegal under Chinese law and is not recognised by any country.

Wang also asked the US to uphold its pledge, refrain from intervening in Chinese internal matters under the guise of Tibetan problems, and refrain from providing assistance to "Tibetan independence" groups engaged in anti-China separatist actions.

Following his discussion with Ngodup Dongchung, Keshap stated on Tuesday that the US supports religious freedom and the preservation of Tibetan cultural and linguistic identities, and that it respects the Dalai Lama’s goal of equal rights for all people.

On Tuesday evening, US CdA Amb Atul Keshap tweeted that he "enjoyed meeting with Ngodup Dongchung, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama."

Keshap"s meeting with Dongchung happened over two weeks after a Tibetan government-in-exile official met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on his tour to India.

During a visit to India in July, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Ngodup Dongchung during a social leaders' reunion, describing it as the most significant encounter with the so-called Tibetan government-in-exile since the Dalai Lama met President Barack Obama.
