The Uyghur Tribunal on Wednesday has said that China has committed genocide on Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in Xinjiang by imposing measures to prevent births intended to destroy a significant portion of them. The London-based independent Tribunal has also blamed senior Chinese leaders including President Xi Jinping for acts perpetrated against Muslim minority groups. It further said that crimes against humanity inflicted on the People's Republic of China (PRC) include deportation or forcible transfer; imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty; torture; rape and other sexual violence; enforced sterilization; persecution; enforced disappearance; and other inhumane acts. The Tribunal also claimed that the Chinese leaders are taking such extreme steps with the purpose of eradicating religious ‘extremism'.

Key Points :

1. The independent tribunal also claimed that the crime against humanity and other inhumane acts are proved. It also said that the satellite imagery has identified destruction and damages made to around 16,000 mosques or 65 per cent of the mosques which were previously present in the region. The Muslim minority is tortured and imprisoned for attending mosques, praying, wearing headscarves and beards, and not drinking alcohol or not eating pork, the report by tribunal added.

3. The Tribunal believes that the PRC has conducted a systematic attack on Uyghur religiosity and it has also implemented a comprehensive policy of destruction of physical religious sites. The report also revealed that  China has built a very extensive network of detention and penal institutions, that it has imprisoned a massively large number of Uyghurs without any legitimate legal process.
