Wang highlighted BRICS' evolution over its 18-year existence, noting its increased cohesiveness and influence as a pivotal force in global affairs. He underlined the group's expanded composition, now comprising 10 member states following the proposed inclusion of Argentina and the recent addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
As Russia assumed the BRICS presidency, President Vladimir Putin noted the group's transformation into a 10-nation entity, reinforcing the relevance and potential of the coalition.
Wang reiterated that BRICS' decision to expand membership aligns with the collective aspirations of emerging markets and developing nations, reflecting the global shift towards a multipolar world. China expressed its commitment to collaborating with BRICS partners to further enhance cooperation and achieve new milestones within the group.
Originally formed in 2006 as BRIC (comprising Brazil, Russia, India, and China), the addition of South Africa in 2010 transformed the group into BRICS.
