On Monday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had touched upon the long-pending issue, with almost similar words. "I can say that in the last few weeks, Indian and Chinese diplomatic and military negotiators have been in close contact with each other in different types of forums.".

Based on these talks, it has been agreed on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control in the India-China border areas. As a result, there has been disengagement and the problem situation that had developed there in 2020 had been resolved.

And we will be taking the next steps on this, Misri had told reporters in New Delhi. The Indian Foreign Secretary had neither confirmed nor denied any possibility of both leaders holding bilateral discussions in Kazan on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting.

"This is a multilateral event, though of course, there is always a provision for bilateral meetings on the sidelines.". We are looking at all that the prime minister's package constitutes now. There are plenty of requests for bilateral and we'll be keeping you posted about how the bilaterals shape as soon as possible," said Misri who was India's Ambassador to China when violent clashes between soldiers of the two nations took place on June 15, 2020 at the LAC in Galwan Valley.

As the Chinese side attempted to breach the LAC elsewhere in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas, the two sides have been engaged through established diplomatic and military channels with a view to arriving at an amicable solution.

On Monday, EAM S. Jaishankar said that the agreement lays a basis for peace and tranquillity that should have been there in border areas and did exist before 2020 – what had been India's main grievance over the past few years for the bilateral relationship to get normal.

"At various points of time, people almost gave up.". We have always maintained that on one hand, we had to obviously do the counter deployments… But, side by side, we have been negotiating since September 2020 when I met my Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow. It has been a very patient process, maybe more complicated than what it could and should have been. Fact is that if we can, as we now have, come to an understanding on patrolling and observation of sanctity of LAC then, I think, it forms a basis for peace and tranquility which should be in the border areas and which did exist there before 2020," said Jaishankar while speaking at NDTV World Summit.

Beijing on the agreement to patrol the border, confirmed this only hours after Chinese President Xi Jinping departed for Kazan to attend the 16th BRICS Leaders' Meeting. The meet will also include attendance from PM Narendra Modi. Attending Xi Jinping in this visit are Cai Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also the member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
