India on Tuesday termed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s comment on the ongoing farmers’ protest in India as ‘ill-informed’ and asked him to refrain from speaking on India’s internal matters.
The Canadian PM earlier had spoken to the Indian community about the ongoing farmers’ protest in India against the farm laws, while stating that his country will always be there to defend the right of peaceful protests.
Trudeau is seen in a video that was tweeted on his account saying that “the situation is very concerning” and that “we are all very worried about family and friends.”
"We believe in the importance of dialogue and that is why we have reached out through multiple means directly to Indian authorities to highlight our concerns," the Canadian PM added.
As a reply to this, MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said “We've seen some ill-informed comments by Canadian leaders relating to farmers in India. These are unwarranted especially when pertaining to the internal affairs of a democratic country. It's also best that diplomatic conversations aren't misrepresented for political purposes.”
