Girl Rescued After Being Locked Up for 20 Days by Instagram Friend

She was rescued by police, a girl student who was locked up in a hotel in Hyderabad for 20 days and raped repeatedly by an Instagram friend.

The SHE Teams Hyderabad rescued the victim hailing from Bhainsa town of Telangana from a hotel in Narayanguda when she shared her location with her parents through WhatsApp.

Police said a complaint was received by SHE Teams Hyderabad wherein the parents stated that their daughter called them and said she has been trapped by her friend on Instagram, who threatened and made her come to Hyderabad, locking her in a hotel room for 20 days. The parents reached Hyderabad in distress and approached SHE Teams for immediate assistance.

With swift action, the SHE Teams traced the girl locked in a hotel room at Narayanaguda and rescued her within a short time, said a police officer on Sunday.
A case under sections 64 (2) (m), 127 (4) and 316 (2) of BNS has been registered at Narayanaguda Police Station against the accused for repeatedly raping the victim and wrongfully restraining her.

In another incident, SHE Teams received a complaint via WhatsApp against a reputed culinary academy in Hyderabad from a student there. She complained that she had been facing harassment from some of her class fellows over a period. These boys en masse used to tease her with foul comments and passing lascivious remarks, obscene gestures, and other illegal acts. After a thorough investigation, a criminal case was registered against the accused at Panjagutta Police Station under section 79 r/w 3(5) of BNS.

Apart from filing cases on culprits, the SHE Teams have also issued a stern warning to the college administration and requested the latter to take precautionary measures to safeguard their students.

The SHE Teams are the wing of the Telangana police that has proved to be an impressive force in ensuring women's safety by responding in less than no time and with due effect in incidents related to harassment of women, the officer said.
