Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan scored important goals to seal Germany's spot at the Euro 2024 knockout stages in a very one-sided win against Hungary. That would be their second consecutive win in Group A to take them to the top with six points after their earlier 5-1 victory against Scotland.
This was a harder game than their opening match, but Germany still got through the resilience of Hungary. Julian Nagelsmann's team showed their resolve to make sure they would go through and have every chance of being the best third-placed team.
He was shiny again during the game, first player to score more than once during the tournament, adding to his strike against Scotland with an excellent close-range finish. In an earlier match, Manuel Neuer matched Gianluigi Buffon's record by making 17th appearance at the Euros, which he made very early on—a really important save from Dominik Szoboszlai's free-kick.
Though Hungary had their moments as well – Barnabás Varga going close enough with a headed effort – Germany added a second just after the hour mark, through the stylish finish of Ilkay Gündogan, guiding in Maximilian Mittelstädt's cross. The goal sealed passage to the round of 16 for Germany, ensuring it was a good start to the competition.
