Wildfires in New Mexico continue going wild

The wildfires have burned more than 318 square miles (824 square km) of ponderosa forests across the state, destroying about 300 structures, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the local media reports. In northern New Mexico, officials at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and residents in the nearby town are prepared to evacuate if a wildfire burning there moves closer, said the reports.

The biggest fire is ravaging Gulf County located in the Florida Panhandle, the northwest part of Florida, which is estimated at 12,000 acres (about 4,856 hectares) with containment at 10 per cent, as of Monday morning.

At least 600 households have been evacuated in the Florida Panhandle, the northwest part of the US state, as wildfires continued to grow in the state, officials said. There are currently 148 wildfires burning more than 7,100 acres across the state, the Florida Forest Service tweeted on Saturday afternoon.

Two fires in the Sequoia National Park and surrounding Sequoia National Forest this September, both ignited by lighting, tore through more than a third of groves in California and torched an estimated 2,261 to 3,637 sequoias, between 3 and 5 per cent of the population of the majestic trees, according to the report released by the agency. This loss added the two-year death toll of giant sequoias in wildfires to an estimated 13 to 19 per cent of the world's population, reports Xinhua news agency.

The currently most active fire in California cut a 64.3 km stretch of the Highway 50 in the Sierra Nevada Mountains area, said the Inciweb, an interstate incident information system, in an update on Sunday. As a transcontinental road in the US, the California portion of Highway 50 is a busy route linking the state's capital city and Lake Tahoe, one of the most famous tourist attractions in the country, reports Xinhua news agency.

The man was transferred to a hospital with serious head injuries on Friday after being hit by a falling electricity pole, Xinhua news agency reported. At least 44 people were transferred to hospitals due to injuries sustained in the fires in Attica, Peloponnese and Evia, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said on Friday. Fires continued to rage across the country for the fourth day.
Wildfires raging in Italy, prompt evacuations

According to the reports, the wildfire have destroyed a 53-acre nature reserve near Pescara, a city in the central Abruzzo region whose Adriatic Sea coast is a popular summer resort area. About 800 people were evacuated from the Pescara area on Monday and 30 people suffered from smoke inhalation as flames reached the seashore, destroying some beach resorts.
Turkey continues to battle raging wildfires in coastal resorts

"We have controlled 125 out of the 132 fires in the last five days, and are still fighting the remaining seven ones," Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli told reporters on Monday. Firefighters have hard times in Marmaris and Bodrum, the resort towns of Mugla province, because of a low humidity rate which dropped to 10 per cent in the morning hours.
