Between June 1 and July 28, 197 human-caused or undetermined-caused fire starts have been reported, Xinhua news agency reported citing the data. In 2022, 409 human-caused fires were reported. In 2021, 494 were reported in Oregon and Washington Forest Service land.

In a statement late Sunday, the provincial Emergency Managaement Minister Bowinn Ma said officials "cannot stress strongly enough how critical it is to follow evacuation orders", reports the BBC.

Spain continues to fight severe forest fires

A fire about 60 km north-east of Alicante has destroyed about 6,500 hectares of forest since August 13, according to the state TV station RTVE. Around 1,200 people in the area of the town of Pego had to leave their homes as a precaution, reports dpa news agency. In the autonomous community of Valencia there were two more smaller-scale wildfires.
162 structures destroyed in California's largest wildfire of 2022

The Oak Fire, ignited a week ago in central California's Mariposa County, has rapidly grown to the largest wildfire so far this year in California. The fire burned over 19,200 acre (77.7 square km) with 45 per cent containment as of Friday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) on Friday.
Spain sees worst wildfire in recorded history

The fire in the Sierra de la Culebra nature reserve has been fueled by temperatures of over 40 degrees centigrade and winds gusting at up to 70 kilometres an hour. So far 30,800 hectares of woodland and scrub with a perimeter of 120.88 kilometres have been destroyed. The previous worst fires were in the region of Huelva in southwest Spain which destroyed 29,687 hectare in 2004 and another fire that affected 28,879 hectare in Cortes de Pallas in eastern Spain in 2012, Xinhua news agency reported.
