Pakistan opposes new UN Security Council permanent seats
Since the start of the negotiations, member states have remained divided over the details. The G-4 states have suggested to expand the Security Council by at least 10 seats (six additional permanent and four non-permanent members). While Uniting For Consensus (UFC) group, comprising of Italy and Pakistan, opposes any addition to the list of permanent members.
India takes its place on UN Security Council, vows to raise voice against terrorism
India's membership was celebrated on Monday at a flag ceremony when its banner went up outside the Council chamber after the first session of the year. Speaking at the ceremony, India's Permanent Representative T.S. Tirumurti pledged that India would "not shy away from raising our voice against the common enemies of humanity like terrorism."
India begins 2-year tenure at UNSC, tricolour to be installed at Council's stakeout
There will be a special ceremony for the five new upcoming non-permanent members on January 4, which is the first official working day and the flag would be installed at the stakeout during the ceremony. Ambassador T S Tirumurti, who is Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations (UN) will install the tricolor and he will also give a brief speech at the programme.
