Mastodon hits over 2mn users after Musk's Twitter takeover
Mastodon has jumped from approximately 300K monthly active users to 2.5 mn, which includes journalists, political figures, writers, actors and organisations, between October and November, it said in a blogpost on Monday.

Twitter said that while it recognises that many of its users are active on other social media platforms, "we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter". The company said that it will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

"There will be multiple algorithms, including no algorithm (i.e. just tweets from those you follow in chronological order)," Musk told a follower, who asked about implementing a social credit system on Twitter. According to his Twitter buddy Pranay Pathole from Pune, there may be three different options of algorithms to the users.

Reacting to the ban, the co-founder and CEO of Koo, Aprameya Radhakrishna, tweeted: "One of the Koo handles on Twitter just got banned. For what? Because we compete with Twitter? So? Mastodon also got blocked today. How is this free speech and what world are we living in?"

Emphasising that criticising him all day long is totally fine, "but doxxing my real-time location and endangering my family is not". "7 day suspension for doxxing. Some time away from Twitter is good for the soul," he chuckled, after organising a poll on the subject on his Twitter handle. Doxxing (also spelled doxing) is the act of revealing someone's personal information online.
